Oriental Medicine includes acupuncture, herbal medicine, medical massage, acupressure and food therapy. Coming from a 3,000-year-old medical theory, it treats a wide range of health conditions from musculoskeletal to internal imbalances.

An in-depth diagnostic process is used which includes a thorough health history, tongue and pulse reading, as well abdominal palpation and observation of skin tone and voice quality. From this a treatment strategy is developed that includes which acupuncture points will be used, as well as appropriate herbal medicine, nutritional suggestions and lifestyle modifications.

Acupuncture points are chosen according to the function they provide in treatment. They may or may not be chosen in the area of the condition being treated. Acupuncture needles are fine sterile needles. They are only used once and then disposed of. Once inserted, they are rarely painful. Most people find the experience to be very relaxing.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine can be used for wellness support in the body as well as to treat many illnesses and acute health conditions. Many people are finding great improvement in their health with Oriental Medicine as it considers all aspects of the individual and treats the root of disease not just symptoms. Oriental Medicine enhances the body's healing process and can be used to treat the side effects of western medical treatment or to support treatment involving western medicine. This highly individualized and holistic form of medicine is valuable in the treatment and prevention of a wide range of health concerns.

Acupuncture is recognized by the National Instititute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to be effective in a wide variety of medical problems. To learn more about acupuncture, please click here.

Herbal Medicine

Plant medicine is nature's original pharmacy. Herbs play a major role in the way modern Chinese medicine is practiced. Unlike western medications which oftentimes function by suppressing symptoms, Chinese herbal medicines stimulate the body’s innate healing response to restore normal, balanced physiological function.

In many cases patients will feel a difference in their symptoms within the first few days and weeks of treatment, while some chronic conditions may take several months to resolve completely.

Patients receive individualized herbal prescriptions tailored to their persona health conditions. The herbs may be given in pill, powder, or liquid forms. All herbs are processed according to strict GMP standards.

1 to 2 bottles of Chinese patent herbal formulas are included with each treatment.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is a safe and non-invasive technique. It is a method of stimulating acupuncture points by applying suction through a “cup” in which a partial vacuum has been created pulling the skin and superficial muscle layer in the cup. Cupping therapy stimulates blood circulation and helps to unblock and realign the flow of energy in the body. In some cases, the cup may be moved while the suction of skin is active, causing a regional pulling of the skin and muscle (the technique is called gliding cupping). It used to treat muscle and joint pain and spasms. Cupping is used in the treatment of low back pain, thoracic pain, upper back pain, sciatica, shoulder pain, as well as respiratory, digestive, and gynecological conditions.

There is no additional fee for using cupping in your treatment.

The Benefits of the TDP lamp is to provide deep heat to raise tissue temperature, rejuvenate cells, promotes blood circulation, and improve lymphatic circulation.

There is no additional fee for using the TDP lamp in your treatment.

Tuina (Tui Na)

The words Tui Na translate into "push-grasp" or "poke-pinch" in Chinese. Physically, it is a series of pressing, tapping, and kneading with palms, fingertips, knuckles or implements that help the body to remove blockages along the meridians of the body and stimulates the flow of qi and blood to promote healing, similar to principles of acupuncture, moxibustion, and acupressure. Tui na's massage-like techniques range from light stroking to deep-tissue work which would be considered too vigorous or too painful for a recreational or relaxing massage. Tuina focuses on specific problems, rather than a more generalized treatment.

In a typical adult tui na session, the patient wears loose clothing and lies on a massage table. After answering some brief questions about the nature and location of the health problem as well as basic questions about general health, allergies and other existing conditions, the practitioner will concentrate on specific acupressure points, energy trigger points, muscles and joints surrounding the affected area.

Tuina is well suited for the treatment of specific musculoskeletal disorders and chronic stress-related disorders of the digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems. Effective treatment protocols have been tested in a practical setting. Tuina is not especially useful for those seeking a mild, sedating and relaxing massage since it tends to be more task focused than other types of bodywork. Contraindications include conditions involving fractures, phlebitis, infectious conditions, open wounds, and lesions.

Tuina can be added to your acupuncture session for an additional fee
